Sitting with some of the few (depressingly few) democrats around these parts* I heard something that would have (in the past when I had more energy) made me get up and start preaching. This lovely lady said she had changed her mind about George Bush (colour me red) and that she now admired the man (colour me purple and apoplectic) since only a true world leader would ruin his own country's economy in order to bring democracy to the world. I got it was supposed to be a joke, but I couldn't laugh. If I'm not mistaken the Patriot Act (oh, the clever naming of acts that strip people of their liberties) is up for renewal and will probably get it. I've seen things I used to admire the country for being given up with not much of a fight at all. Sometimes, with repulsive enthusiasm.

This is all I can muster - the throbbing in my head is already telling me Naughty girl, you're gonna pay for this. and there's only so much of my uninformed opinions I can burden LJ with before I start feeling sharp pangs of guilt for making this world an even duller place.

I hope you are all doing fine and, like [livejournal.com profile] ljs says, have your Axminsters ready for what joys life bring you.

I'm of to therapy (physio, though I don't blame you for thinking another kind is needed).

*ex-pat communities with CEOs and CFOs aren't the right place to dig out a democrat.

I have a thing for Tim Burton - no, not that way, but close. From the tip of Vincent's toes to the top of his Big Fish and all the way through Nightmare, Sleepy Hollow and with a special bow to Beetle Juice he makes me want to use the four-lettered-word. Yes, I love him.

This fall the man who only failed me once (and as men go, that's nada) gives the world Corpse Bride. The title alone makes me warm and fuzzy, but then the cast of this stop-motion scrumptiously gothic love tale is good enough to make this humble fan shed a few tears of gratitude... Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Watson, Albert Finney and Richard E. Grant.

After the waste of my all too brief time on this planet with such festering fermented fiendishness as Constantine and H'sGttG, I'm more than looking forward to this one. Give me this and the Coraline stop-motion and I'll be one very happy, black on black, camper.

The trailer for the movie can be found >here<. [Quicktime]

Edit: I almost forgot, Happy Mothers Day to those it applies. Go and hug your mum or something.

P.S. Yes, I do know Mr. Burton has the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory extravaganza coming out this year and that yes, Mr. Depp is also to be in that one. Hence my extra joy when told the news it will be a double Tim Burton year.
