One tries to be nice. One gets bitten on the ass. There's a lesson to be learnt somewhere (don't be nice, ever?). I really should know better, but sometimes I too make errors in judgment.

And so, back in NYC a day before schedule.

I do have so much to share about the Book Festival. It was a thrilling experience for somebody like myself - John Irving right there in front of me - talking about his books and creative process. I still can't believe it was really the author of Hotel New Hampshire I saw there, wearing jeans and talking about how he can't really draw, but gave some lady in Amsterdam tattoos anyway (they were stars apparently).

Maybe tomorrow when I'm less upset.

I'm so sorry there was trauma, Chen. [hugs you hard] May the rest of your trip get better! (And yay for your John Irving moment.)

Oh, love - even the shiny press pass didn't compare to being able to sit there and listen to Mr. Irving talk about himself, his work and, in a moment of complete empathy for me, his kids.

And the upset is gone and one moves on.

It'll get better.

Oh, and the DVD came back to me. Is there somewhere else you'd like it sent?

D.C. was great. It was the turn of events that caught me off guard. Completely. Basically I'm having a bit of a hard time with it, but it will get better.

You are too sweet. I actually showed up at the Mexican place in St. Marks and [livejournal.com profile] rusty_halo and I were greeted by the waiter who managed to recognize us and invited us in. A couple of pints of Negra Modelo (in the absence of my trusty Guinness) later I was back in business.

Chen, I'm genuinely sorry I missed you (and Neil Gaiman) last week -- it's truly been hectic here and I mixed up the dates.

How long are you in NYC still? I'd love to meet up with you if you're still in town and let me know if you want my Sandman comics. I unfortunately have workers here today and tomorrow, but will be free on Wednesday -- I hope you're still in town by then.

Sorry you're upset too, I hope things get better soon!

Love

I have been following your move and all that entails (having moved both countries and cities more times than I care to recall, I empathize) and didn't want to bother you. If it's any consolation, once it's over you pretty much forget all about the whole stress as soon as you have a new place to do over.

Unfortunately I'm here in NY only until tomorrow afternoon, when I go to the other side of the continent for a week. If I was prone to do the smiley faces mine would be like this right now: :-(

I really did look forward to spending some time with you since I've always liked your creative vein and humour. Don't worry about the Sandman comics - as much as I wanted them I really don't want you to bother with anything else. I'm back to NY in a week, but by then, if I'm not mistaken, you'll be on your way to where I just left (LA).

On Mr. Gaiman - he starts shooting Death and the High Cost of Living at the beginning of 2006. Crossing of fingers are in order. It will be interesting to know how a movie adapted from comics by the original author and directed by the same person will go. After all the Moore trauma, it will be something to look forward to. Good Omens with Terry Gilliam seems to be doable once more (Gaiman quote: I didn't think it was dead, just in a glass coffin surrounded by dwarfs) now that Mr. Depp is a money making machine by route of Captain Jack. What else? His next book will be a children story, Graveyard Book - about a baby being raised by the dead people in a graveyard. Anansi Boys so far has been a lot of fun (I'm reading it with the Marilyn Manson bio and they go well together).

I'll stop now - this is getting way too long for a simple reply.

Take care and smooth sailing on your move.
